The short version

  • No ads, and no ad or analytics trackers.
  • You can browse without an account. You only sign in to report or confirm a nest.
  • Your location stays on your device. It sorts the map by distance and is never sent to us.
  • Your trainer name is never shown publicly. Only the site's admins can see it.
  • You can see everything we hold about you, and delete it yourself, from the trainer button on the site.
  • We don't sell or share your information.

What we collect

CT Nest Atlas ("the site", "we") is a volunteer-run fan project. We collect as little as we can to keep nest reports trustworthy.

An anonymous ID

When you open the site, your browser is given a random ID. It carries no name or contact details. It lets the site remember which reports and votes are yours and limits how often one device can post.

Your trainer name

To report or confirm a nest you sign in and choose a trainer name. It is never displayed on the site or in public Discord posts. Admins can see it next to your reports so they can deal with false reports.

What you submit

Nest reports, confirmations, "gone" votes and suggestions for new parks are saved with your ID. The nest itself (species and park) is shown publicly and announced in our community Discord, without your name. We also keep a tally of how many reports you have filed and how many were confirmed or disputed. Only you and the admins can see it.

If you suggest a new park you can choose to attach your current location to mark where the park is. That location is sent with the suggestion and seen only by admins.

Your sign-in: email or Discord

Reporting, confirming and suggesting parks need a sign-in, with either an email address or a Discord account. It keeps a trainer name from being lost when you change phones, and makes false reports harder to file in bulk. With email, we store the address and send you a sign-in code. With Discord, we receive the basic account details Discord shares when you approve the link, such as your Discord ID, username and email address. Browsing the map needs neither.

Messages you send us

If you use the contact form, we receive what you type and the email address you give so we can reply. Our host's form service also records your IP address and browser type with the message, and the form is protected from spam by Google reCAPTCHA.

What we do not collect

We don't ask for your real name, your Pokémon GO account, or payment details, and we don't track your location.

What stays on your device

The site uses your browser's storage, not advertising cookies, to remember:

  • the town or location you picked, so the map can sort nests by distance;
  • whether you prefer the map or satellite view;
  • whether you have already been asked about adding the site to your Home Screen;
  • your sign-in, so your anonymous ID and trainer name stay the same between visits.

If you tap the locate button on the map, your phone's position is used to show where you are while the map is open. It is read on your device, never saved and never sent to us.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. If your trainer name isn't secured with email or Discord, clearing site data also means losing access to that name.

Services the site relies on

We don't sell, rent or trade your information. The site does depend on other services to work, and like any website request, each of them sees your device's IP address and browser type when your browser contacts it:

  • Supabase stores the nest reports, trainer names and sign-ins.
  • Our web host delivers the pages and may keep standard server logs and overall traffic counts.
  • Esri supplies the map and satellite images.
  • pokemondb.net, unpkg and esm.sh supply Pokémon images and the code libraries the site runs on.
  • Discord receives public nest announcements, and handles sign-in if you link a Discord account.
  • Our email provider delivers sign-in codes if you secure your name with email.
  • Google Maps opens only when you tap Directions or a park's address.
  • Google reCAPTCHA runs only on the contact page, to keep spam out of the form. Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to it.

Each of these has its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it, and your choices

Nest reports and votes are cleared at every nest migration, about every two weeks. A record of which species nested at each park is kept, with nothing in it about who reported.

Your trainer name, your report tally and your linked email or Discord account are kept until you delete your account.

See it or delete it yourself. Tap the trainer button (the person icon at the top of the site), then Your data. It lists everything stored about you, and Delete my account removes it for good: your trainer name, your sign-in, your tally, your votes and your park suggestions. A nest you reported that other trainers have confirmed stays on the map, with nothing linking it to you.

For anything else, such as a correction, use the contact form and mention your trainer name so we can find your record.

No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure. We use reputable providers and limit who can see private data to the site's admins, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us an email address or other personal details, contact us and we will delete them.
