What is a Pokémon GO Nest?

A nest is a park or green space where one specific Pokémon spawns far more often than anywhere else — making it the best place to grind candy, stardust and shinies.

The short version

Roughly every two weeks, Niantic assigns certain parks a "nesting" species. While that nest is active, you'll see that one Pokémon spawn over and over inside the park. Nests only ever feature unevolved, non-legendary Pokémon (think Machop, Larvitar or Dratini) — so a busy nest is the fastest way to stack candy for a powerful evolution.

Migrations happen every other Wednesday evening. When a migration hits, every nest in the state can change to a brand-new species at once — so it's worth checking back right after.

Note: "forced migrations" can also happen at random when Niantic adds new Pokémon to the game, shifting the entire nest pool early.

How to identify a nest

Look for "dark green" zones Nests only occur in parks — areas the in-game map shades dark green. No green, no nest.
Watch for repeat spawns If you see the same species pop up 3+ times inside the park (but not on the surrounding streets), that's your nest.
Check the IVs Nest spawns often roll lower Attack IVs than weather-boosted encounters — a handy tiebreaker when you're unsure.

Why farm nests?

Boosted Stardust

A few species hand out extra dust on catch — e.g. Shellder (1,000), Sableye (750), Meowth & Shroomish (500).

Candy & XL Candy

Stack candy fast for top attackers like Machop, Mudkip, Swinub and Gastly — including the XL you need to hit level 50.

Shiny Hunting

More spawns means more checks. If a species has its shiny released, a nest is the most efficient way to find one through sheer volume.

The one rule to remember

Nesting species are always unevolved and non-legendary. If you see a fully-evolved or legendary Pokémon spawning a lot, it's an event or weather boost — not a nest.
